During Sunday morning worship we have three available classes for your kiddos.

Nursery (ages birth-2, available at all three services)
Our nursery is located in the yellow room, in the hallway directly to the left of the main sanctuary. In this class teachers meet the specific developmental needs of your child. Our youngest friends hear key phrases repeated as their spiritual vocabulary begins to grow, our older friends may participate in simple crafts and activities that prepare them for their transition into the preschool class. Teachers are also trained to follow parent directions regarding feeding, diaper changes, naps, etc.  Parents will be given a report at the end of class detailing the morning’s activities.
As this is the only children’s class available at our 8:30am service, children of any age are welcome to join us during this time as long as they can behave in a manner safe for our youngest friends.

PreK (ages 2-4, available at the 9:45 and 11 am services)
Right next door to the yellow room is our pink room for our preschoolers. Our PreK classes includes sensory play, age appropriate bible based curriculum, and snack time (with parent approval). Parents will be given a report at the end of class detailing the morning’s activities.

Kids Connect (ages 5-5th grade, available at the 9:45 and 11 am services)
Our Kids Connect Classroom is located on the other side of the building at the back of our Christian Life Center (CLC). In this class our kiddos practice musical worship, hear an age appropriate version of the same lesson being preached in adult services, and are lead through corresponding activities like crafts and games.

Registration/Check-In
At the entrance to each classroom there will be a volunteer or staff member checking in students on a tablet. The first time a student is registered there will be additional safety information collected (this process should take around 3 minutes). Every returning visit, our volunteer will search your child’s name, and our system will print out 2 tickets, one is a name tag for your child with any relevant safety information listed on it as well as a randomized code. This code is also printed on the 2nd ticket and given to whoever drops off the student. Please bring this ticket to pickup to insure we safely return students to the correct adult.

Additional Safety Information
  • All our children’s staff and volunteers are background checked and trained in child development, classroom control, and abuse prevention.
  • Every classroom designated for children is equipped with a motion activated camera. If you ever have a curiosity or concern, guardians of students in class may request to see this stored footage after class has concluded.
  • Many of our staff and volunteers have their infant/child/adult 1st aid and cpr certification. Our goal is to have at least one cpr trained adult in every classroom.
  • During a shelter in place or evacuation emergency, parents are welcome to pick up their children AFTER the class has arrived at the designated meeting place and teachers have taken attendance to insure everyone’s safety. In case of emergency please follow the directions of church staff and emergency personnel. Children and adults will be guided to the same location for the safest and most efficient reunification.
  • If you have any additional questions please contact our director of children’s ministries, Moss Myers, at mmyers@umcgs.org.

Baptism is available people of any age. For children, parents or baptismal sponsors take vows on behalf of the one being baptized. For those youth age and older, they will take the baptismal vows on their own. Baptism is “God’s good gift, offered to us without price.” Since God gives us this gift, it never needs to be repeated. If you have questions about baptism for yourself or someone else, talk to Pastor John, our Senior Pastor.

As a United Methodist Church, our Table is open. All who have or seek to have faith in Jesus Christ are invited to partake of communion during worship when it is offered. Communion is available every Sunday at the 8:30 am service. At the 9:45 Contemporary Service and 11:00 Traditional Service, communion is celebrated on the first Sunday of the month.

We care for our community by providing school supplies, teacher appreciation activities, encouragement, and spiritual support to the teachers of the local schools in our area. We also partner with local schools in providing Easter meals for local families. Good Shepherd partners with Project Transformation by providing reading mentors to help bridge the literacy gap.

We share the transforming love and forgiveness of Jesus Christ to impact the hearts and lives of incarcerated men, women and youth, as well as their families, through Kairos Prison Ministry and Angel Tree. Good Shepherd supports these ministries through prayer, team service, cookie baking, artwork and financial giving.

Annual mission trips are a great way to share the love and grace of Jesus Christ as we help others achieve basic necessities that we take for granted every day. Most trips involve construction of some sort and relationship building activities, such as, Mission Bible School.

Yes, Good Shepherd provides a worship experience online that is available every Sunday. You can view it on our website home page or on our YouTube channel.

We would love to receive you and your family into membership. As a place to begin, Pastor John, our Senior Pastor, would love to meet with you and talk about joining the church. Anything you choose to share helps Pastor John prepare for the next steps. He will walk you through our five vows of membership: prayers, presence, gifts, service and witness.

If you are ready to join at the end of this conversation, he’ll receive you into membership and set a date to introduce you to our congregation. Feel free to contact Pastor John if you need more information or want to ask a question.
