Making Disciples of Jesus Christ for the Transformation of the World

Our History

Church of the Good Shepherd’s development began in 1982 when a young pastor, Rev. Chuck Nordean, was sent by the Oklahoma Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church to start the work of planting a new church in the south Yukon, Ok. area. A small piece of land had been purchased by a district church board for the future location of the church buildings at 10928 S.W. 15th. S.W. 15th was a gravel road at that point. A new housing addition, Westbury, had started just east of the property.

Pastor Nordean gathered together a group of Christians interested in begin- ning a new church. On the last Sunday of February in 1983 Good Shepherd’s first worship service was held in a double-wide trailer on the property on S.W. 15th. Since 1983, our buildings and properties have grown and our area has changed, but our mission has not.

Good Shepherd’s mission is summed up in the phrase: “People of God, learning to follow Jesus, inviting others to join the journey.” In their journey of faith in Jesus Christ, the people of Good Shepherd have worshipped our Lord, baptized new Christians into the faith, built ministries to bring help and mercy to persons in our local communities, trained disciples of Jesus, assisted parents in bring up children and youth in the Christian faith, and sent support and mission teams to those in need literally all over the earth.

We invite you to join the journey!

Moss is the Director of Children's Ministries at Good Shepherd. Their travels have taken them all over the country but they found their way to Good Shepherd in 2023 and are most looking forward to sharing God and His Holy Scriptures with your children in a way that meets them where they are at, builds up their developing skills, and leaves them feeling safe and loved.

“I am so excited to spend time with your kiddos teaching them all about the God who loves them.” If you would like to join them in that process Moss would love for you to reach out so you can start getting to know each other.
