What kind of worship music will be used?

We have several choices for you when it comes to styles of music and worship. In the 9:50 a.m worship service held in our sanctuary and the 11 a.m. worship service held in our Christian Life Center there is a worship band. The 9:50 service tends to use more classic elements of Christian worship along with modern music and technology. The 11 a.m. contemporary worship in the Christian Life Center uses worship praise music.

In the 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. sanctuary worship services on Sunday, there is a choir with organ and piano. Classic Christian hymns are usually sung.

What should I wear?

We try to be considerate of others by not intentionally offending our neighbors with our clothing. Normal attire at Church of the Good Shepherd ranges from t-shirts, shorts and flip-flops to dresses, suits and ties. We want you to wear what is both comfortable for you and what honors God.

What ages are welcome in the nursery?

6 weeks old through three years old.

Why do you take Holy Communion on the first Sunday of each month?

As Jesus instituted Holy Communion [also known as the Lord’s Supper] for the Church, he said, “Do this as often as you gather in remembrance of me.” We take Communion because:
1. Jesus said to.
2. The founder of Methodist movement, John Wesley, practiced and encouraged Holy Communion at every opportunity.
3. Taking Holy Communion connects us to the church, the body of Christ, throughout the world.
4. and, most importantly, Holy Communion is a means of receiving the grace and love of God into our lives through the bread and the cup and the action of the Holy Spirit.

How do you take communion?

Our ushers will direct you to come forward if you choose. You will come down the center aisle along with others also wanting to receive communion. When you get to the pastor or the communion server, hold your hands out with palms up. The pastor or communion server will place a piece of the bread in your hand. Then another pastor or communion server will offer you the cup of grape juice to dip the bread in . At our classic services at 8:30 and 11 a.m. in the sanctuary you will be offered an individual, small plastic cup of grape juice instead. You will be told, “This is the body of Christ broken for you,” and “This is the blood of Christ shed for you.” If you have little ones with you, they will be served as well if you choose.

After taking Holy Communion, you may either kneel at the padded altar rail and pray as long as you would like or return to your seat. Return to your seat by the side aisle.

At Church of the Good Shepherd, we offer Holy Communion every first Sunday of the month and on special days like Christmas Eve. Everyone is welcome to participate. If you are unable to come forward and would like to receive communion, please let one of our ushers know. One of our pastors or communion servers will bring the elements to you at your seat.

Can I receive Holy Communion if I’m not a member of Church of the Good Shepherd?

Yes. Holy Communion in the United Methodist Church is open communion. All who seek to follow Jesus Christ are welcome at the Lord’s table at Church of the Good Shepherd.

What if I want to be baptized or become a member of Church of the Good Shepherd?

Baptism is a sacrament or sacred means by which God’s grace touches and claims a person life as a child of God. Baptism is based on Jesus’ personal command to his disciples to: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded.” Our church does not re-baptize people. If you have been baptized in another church using water in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, we rejoice that God has claimed and touched your life with his grace. If you have not been baptized, we would be excited to baptize you. A pastor will lead you through the process. If you or your child have not been baptized before and you want yourself or your child to be baptized, please indicate that on the worship registration card found in the program given to you before worship. Place the card in the offering plate. A pastor will be in contact with you.

If you wish to become a member of Good Shepherd by profession of faith or transfer of membership from another church, please indicate that on the registration card found in the program given to you before worship. Place the card in the offering plate. A pastor will be in contact with you.
